CAUSE

One question. One truth.

“Why are onion prices rising?”

Unseasonal heavy rainfall in late 2025 in Maharashtra's Nashik district caused severe crop damage, destroying approximately 80% of Kharif and late Kharif onion crops across 14,096 hectares. This damage is the dominant cause of rising onion prices by drastically reducing supply for the Rabi season.

CURRENT STATE

Despite higher national production, crop damage has created a scarcity of stored onions and limited arrivals in key mandis. Consequently, onion prices in some Delhi and Rajasthan markets have spiked to ₹2,500 per quintal, even as other regions see stable or falling prices.
